From Berlin With Love, wa! (Part 3)

Allright, here we go for the last write-up of my Berlin trip. On Thursday, Simon and me stopped by SOTO to check out the opening of their exhibition “Lonely Fruit” containing photographs by Alastair Philip Wiper, that are showing the isolation of a person, an animal or an object in their surroundings – sometimes lost and confused, sometimes tranquil and at peace – but always with a wink.

We had to be quiet early, because we had tickets for a show in the Friedrichstadtpalast that evening, but check Phil-G.‘s pics for prove that the place was packed later on.

There were also some photographs hanging in the showrooms.

Above you see Omer & Phil-G. of SOTO in conversations and I have to say they are really good hosts. After I introduced myself and gave them our stickers, Phil-G. immediately placed one on this bench kind of thing here.

That’s me with Phil-G. He used to work for BBB (Bread & Butter Berlin), but has now moved on as co-founder of SOTO and MADE (a cool project to offer space, possibilities and a forum to creative minds), plus he also blogs for Highsnobiety and hails from Frankfurt. Was really cool to meet him finally.

And that’s me with Omer, who also co-founded SOTO and founded ArtSchoolVets, a very well-known German blog, that also offers cool fashion items in cooperation with different designers in their store. It’s really worth to check that out. It was also really great to be able to meet him. Oh, and how could it be any different: He’s also from Frankfurt. Ajaklaaaaaaaaa. :)

As I already mentioned above, we had to rush over to Friedrichstadtpalast for the show YMA.

It is really hard to desribe this show with words – it offers everything… music, dancing, acrobatics, lights, fire, water and even some worldly wisdoms in between – so check out the trailer. With over 100 performers this show is by the way bigger than any Las Vegas production. Anywayz, highly recommended…!!!

Also the venue is kinda crazy. The Friedrichstadtpalast is the world’s biggest theatre stage and was built in 1984 by the regime of the German Democratic Republic. I also think, that with all the stage mechanics it also offers all possibilities for directors, you could think of.

On my last day there, we had lunch in the Funkturm Restaurant

…55 meters above Berlin. Unfortunately, the weather sucked, so the view was not as great as it could have been, but…

… the food was really good.

As it was everywhere during my stay in Berlin. I had a fun time, big thank you to Simon for hosting me and I’m already looking forward to my next trip to that city.

Tachchen.

So I arrived in Berlin after having no sleep the night before, because we had to celebrate our first win of the season, and went with Simon, who now lives in Berlin, diiiiiirectly on the Touristenverarsche-Tour and to the Kurt Krömer Benefizgala in the evening.

On Monday, we made our way downtown again, but this time to check out some stores.

Two corners away you’ll find the Firmament store in their new location. They got really exclusive stuff by OriginaFake, Head Porter Plus, Acronym, Visvim and so on.

You can also get some Japanese magazines there, while I got myself a new Stüssy beanie. And no, they don’t make ‘Gas-/Wasserinstallationen’, if some krayzie person on the street should tell you that LOL.

Simon also found this book called ‘Take Ivy’ that contains photographs of men and their clothes shot on the Ivy campuses. It was originally published in Japan in 1965 and started the “Ivy Style” fashion among students in Tokyo. And as Simon told me not much has changed on the campuses fashionwise in all those years. And if somebody should know about that, it’s him, but I won’t drop the H-bomb now. :)

SOpreme.

After having seen the SOpreme shirt by SOTO at the In Heaven Part 2 party in Frankfurt, I had to get it, too. And after having read a comment on the availability under the pic on their Facebook page, I got on the phone, Phil-G answered and a few days later I had it. Thanks, guys!

To get the pun on the shirt: It was released as part of the Supreme Book launch at SOTO and came with every book back then.

And it was very OK to also include the first issue of the Highsnobiety Magazine. Thank you very much!

Unfortunately, I haven’t been to Berlin since SOTO opened, but I only heard good things about the store and I think we’ll be hearing a lot from them in the future, too. Check this post by trendzeta to get an insight. I’ll check it out the next time I’m in Berlin for sure:
