This site is simply amazing and I just have to post this on here. If you feel bored or just want to kill a few minutes (possibly hours) give it a try.
I remember that I played this Donkey Kong Game & Watch when I was a kid, Nintendos handheld design has not really changed that much over time huh? ;).
Who here is also looking forward to the upcoming E3 ? it starts today! We already know that there will be a new Nintendo console scheduled for 2012 codenamed “Project Cafe” and a new portable Playstation console so far called the “Vita”. What is it with weird names for consoles these days !?!? What happened to the classic names that started with Super or Mega, wouldnt it be cool if Nintendo would just be like, “screw it with those artistic creative names lets just call it the super mega über-awesome nintendo dirty BIT! ” now that would be something!
But I’m sure they will come up with something like Nintendo Café au lait pffffff how awful did it already sound to ask your friends to play Wii !?
Names aside the schedule has been set and thankfully for us here in Germany the Nintendo press conference will be tomorrow at 6pm (18:00h) heres the official link to the livestream.
IGN also made a schedule and will be hosting a livestream for all the world premieres including the Nintendo, Microsoft and the Sony press conferences. You can check it out over here.
First conference will be held today by Microsoft at around 6:30pm Germany time (according to the IGN page).
Almost everyone I know at least played the Nintendo GameBoy once and I am still a big fan of the original “brick” that moves pixels on a greenish black and white screen. I still remember my birthday when I first got my GameBoy good memories !
The french design studio zim and zou seem to take their memories of the GameBoy a step further and designed an all out of paper GameBoy.
Check out the pictures even the game cartridge is made all out of paper!
Heres a pretty interesting interview with Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma done by IGN guiding you through the years of Zelda games, one of the best game franchises ever KANYE STYLE!.
In the Akihabara district of Tokyo, Japan you find all kinds of gadgets, collectables, hobby stuff etc. people that know the area call it the mecca of electronic goods. But what its also known for is the quite huge amount of retro gaming goods you can still find here.
Theres alot of places around to shop for retro games and of course places that might have better bargains than this one but none of them has become as famous as Super Potato in Akihabara and Osaka’s Den Den Town.
You can almost find anything from the era famicom, super famicom even more exotic stuff (for our midst) like Nintendo disc system, MSX computers, PC Engine, Neo Geo or the Nintendo Virtual Boy.
Hope you enjoyed this little video tour of the Super Potato store in Akihabara Tokyo, Japan.
I have been seeing these cool videos where people make music with chiptune hacked Nintendo GameBoy’s and Famicoms and I kinda liked the idea of course you need some knowledge to do this but fortunately music company KORG released a software for the Nintendo DS a while ago already called KORG DS-10. It allows you to make funky music like this right here on your Nintendo DS.
It looked like enough fun to me to buy it and again fortunately at work we had one left and I got it for a good price :).
Since in germany the demand for synthesizer/music software for your Nintendo DS was not that high, they are not offered alot anymore but you can still find them for a good price here and there.
KORG also released a new edition called KORG DS-10 PLUS of the synthesizer in Japan, lets hope for the german fans out there that they will release it in our midst. For those who cant wait its availible from Amazon.co.jp in a limited and standard edition.
I’m a big fan of retro gaming not because retro is “cool” nowadays its more because I grew up with it and I still find some of the stuff from the late 80s and 90s better than the stuff they put out today. Of course part of it is nostalgia but its also the skill gamemakers had back in those days with limited tools, was it the graphics or the music.
Please check Myk Dawgs aka. Myk31webpage and videos out if you are into the oldschool 8bit era of videogame graphics. He makes graphics and music videos for different kinds of artists and I really like his style, its great to see people using the new tools to check out what you can do with some of the older technologies (like in chiptune music too).
One of his latest videos includes a collaboration between Mick Boogie and Peter, Björn and John called Stay This Way.
This video featuring the Kanye West track Robocop (808s & Heartbreak) has to be my favorite video as a big Mega Man (Rockman) fan.
Hope you enjoyed the videos and the music and please comment if you have some questions or suggestions :-).
Thought this video was pretty cool and had to share it with you, it takes you through the times of retro gaming beginning at pong, space invaders through Mario, Monkey Island and ending with a big bang and Lara Croft… but see for yourself.
Sometimes I think about what would make a great film and I think about animes and cartoons somehow that inspired me alot during my childhood years. Its weird back then I didnt even know that alot of those “cartoons” were made in Japan and so called “animes” (derived from the word animation).
I think first of all I have to mention He-Man which is not an anime but I think for every 80′s born kid one of the first most influential cartoons and heros hrhr.
