Childish Gambino – Freaks And Geeks

I posted this under the slogan TRACK OF THE HOUR a few days ago on Facebook and twitter (@theballatician), but honestly this track has been the BANGER OF THE LAST FEW DAYS. I love that it’s just raps (and crazy ones by the way). I love the beat. I love the video, which is plain and simple, but I still enjoyed watching it more than… let’s say…. the last Kanye video. I’m real happy for you Kanye, but… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So, I hope that at least one of you guys will also enjoy it for these reasons.

Thanks to Simon for sharing. Have a nice Sunday, everybody.

Frank Zander.

Yesterday I was chilling at my man Simon‘s crib, because he left to his training camp in Austria today. A few days ago he alreadyyy told me about this Frank Zander version of Duck Sauce‘s Barbra Steisand, but I forgot to check, so he showed it to me last night finally. It’s great on so many levels, don’t you think?

Our conversation then went on on the people that are in the official video for Barbra Streisand and in the end I showed Simon the original sample of the song, which is from Hallo Bimmelbahn (1973) by German band Nighttrain (that was later on first covered by Boney M in 1979). Since he was surprised and liked it that much, I’m hoping it’ll do the same for you.

So much for my music post this week. :)

Crada everywhere.

OK, maybe I’ll continue with some more Berlin-realted posts for a minute. But for a special reason.

About a month ago, hypebeast.tv posted this very nice video about the new creative space in Berlin: MADE. I already mentioned it in my last Berlin post, when I talked about meeting Phil-G., who is one of the people responsible for this unique project. The others are Nico Zeh, Tadi Rock & Luise Biesalski.

But more specifically this video also gives us an impression of their second event called ‘Typographic Ballet’ that featured Ebon Heath & rapper Talib Kweli both from Brooklyn.

If you did pay attention to the music in the background, great! And if you did not, you should just check again, because I could listen to it ALLLLLLLLL day. It is beautifully done by Frankfurt located producer Crada (@the_real_crada), who also was part of this event and who did some tracks for internationally known artists The LOX, KiD CuDi, Drake & Nneka featuring NaS. His latest production is for L.A. rapper Jay Rock. Here’s the video for the song, that is also part of Jay Rock’s upcoming mixtape ‘Black Friday’. You can listen to the other tracks on his SoundCloud profile.

I’m hoping to listen to a lot more good stuff from this kid. Keep it up!

Bumping into Adam Tensta in Frankfurt.

Last Friday, we went out to the 2nd House-Verbot Party at the Apartment in Frankfurt to celebrate our boy Ben‘s birthday. Best thing about it was, that @DJKitsune was behind the decks and as the party slogan suggests house music was absolutely prohibited from the party and so he played a dope hip-hop set, hit after hit, both of my favorite Jay-Z tracks (I Just Wanna Love You & Venus vs. Mars). I really could not think of a track that was missing.

Since me and Amil had a game the next day, we left the party kinda early, which is very unusual for us, but we also were hungry, so we walked over to the gas station right around the corner to get something to eat and to drink. As I was checking my twitter (my “phone” couldn’t get any reception at the club) I saw a tweet by @AdamTensta asking “who’s in Frankfurt”. RUN FFM is…!!! And 3 minutes later he enters the gas station, where @chrishimself84 asked if he could take this TwitPic of him.

5042721837 35f940fe02 Bumping into Adam Tensta in Frankfurt.

He was a really cool dude to talk to, very relaxed and we had a good conversation, during which he told us that he was in the studio here in Frankfurt and that he had a show in Stuttgart the next day. Adam was also rolling with 3 other guys and one told Chris, that it was remarkable, that we recognized him, because nearly no one else did apparently.

And we are here to change that. Please meet: Adam Tensta :)
Adam is an aspiring rapper from Sweden with a unique style – both musically and fashion-wise -, was awarded the 2008 Swedish Grammis for his debut album It’s A Tensta Thing (released Nov 2007) as best Dance/Hip Hop/Soul album, rocks styles by The Hundreds (that’s also how we found out about him) and Mishka NYC in his music videos. Tensta by the way is the area in Stockholm where he grew up, so he is very attached to his roots and reps 163 Stockholm to the fullest. In the following video, when he was HIP HOP OFFICIAL‘s Artist of the Week already two years ago, he explains the purpose behind choosing this name.

So Adam, you just came closer to your priority to be everywhere. :) And did I mention, that he is cool as fuck…?!?? After we already said good bye, he came back into the gas station to give each of us his new single OK WOW and we were blasting it on our way home. Thanks, man.

Here you can have a listen to the track yourself.

And here are some of his music videos – always something for the eyes, too.

He’s also featured on the Nothing To Worry About Remix.

Peter Björn & John – Nothing To Worry About ft. Adam Tensta, U-N-I & The 87 Stick Up Kids (Remix) by AdamTensta

UPDATE [07/10/2010]: Had to include this remix for Like A G6, that dropped yesterday, because if there is a remix he shoulda been featured on, that’s it…!

Far East Movement – Like A G6 ft. Jermaine Dupri, Obie Trice & Adam Tensta (Remix) by AdamTensta

This week his new album called Scared Of The Dark is gonna get mastered and I can’t wait to hear it and to welcome Adam in Frankfurt once again.

Chiddy Bang Bang Bang!

It’s not very often, that I watch a music video from start till end. This right here is an exception because of the cool idea and the dope song. I once was a kid, all I had was a dream.

Thanks to the guys from German streetwear brand BEASTIN for the heads-up.

In other music and really sad news – I’m sure all of you have heard about it – Guru of Gang Starr died from cancer at the age of 43. Frankfurt dee-jay DJ Kitsune posted download links to a radio show he did with him once and also to his Guru tribute on German radio station Jam FM. Keep his legacy alive! Rest in peace, Guru.

Egyptian hip-hop.

As my previous post indicated, I’m finally back after all those exams and some time off to get some things done (and also some partying, I have to admit). Anywayz, I’m ready like spaghetti, so I want to share two Egyptian hip-hop music videos with you, that my friend Ahmed from Cairo sent me some time ago, because as he told me that’s also the topic of the music: Party & be happy.

By the way, I also used some parts of the first track for my Cairo video.

Just a quick question.

Which video for David Guetta‘s and KiD CuDi‘s ‘Memories’ do you like the most??

In my opinion it’s not even a question. You better know, which one gets my vote! ;-)

‘Frankfurter Bub’ on The Blueprint 3.

I had something in mind, when I posted that ‘ALLES AUSSER FRANKFURT IST SCHEISSE‘ shirt yesterday. (By the way, the only reasonable translation of that would be ‘FRANKFURT IS THE SHIT’, which is just the complete opposite, if you translate that literally!)

So after we learned, that Frankfurt/Mannheim based Crada produced KiD CuDi‘s song Hyyer for his debut album, we got some more news of that kind for you, because there is also a ‘Frankfurter Bub’ on Jay-Z‘s The Blueprint 3. Yap, who would have thought???

j cole the warm up 300x300 Frankfurter Bub on The Blueprint 3.

Every day a star is born, clap for ‘em, clap for ‘em, clap for ‘em: J.Cole it is (featured on the song A Star Is Born)!!! I was made aware of the fact that he was born in Frankfurt by this post on Dodger Hightop, where you can listen to the song that reportedly got him the first deal for an artist on Jay-Z‘s new label RocNation. More evidence on JCole’s fan site and his Wikipedia. And for now we will ignore the fact, that he moved back to the USA at the age of 1.

The first person to introduce me to J.Cole was my best friend Ben, who sent me this trailer for his mixtape The Warm Up. Since it was so simple, but still symbolic for stages in your life, we could relate to it not only for basketball reasons.

For more go to his website as I will close this post with this dope video for his song Simba, also shot by BBGUN.

And I wonder, who is the next one that was born in Frankfurt, we may not have heard about yet???

SOUR: Water Flavor EP.

Since Chrishimself turned this thing here in a video posting blog (just kidding of course, but you really should check out those last posts by him….), I also wanted to join the fun by posting this music video featuring a song by Japanese band SOUR from their mini album ‘Water Flavor EP‘, done in webcam-conference-style (if that wasn’t a word before, now it is!).

And in my opinion it’s done in amazingly creative fashion. Now is your chance to watch it finally.

Today is a good day a.k.a. KiD CuDi album release day.

Today is really a special day with three great milestones, so I will have a post trilogy, just as the two albums, that were released on this day in Germany, are also part of a trilogy.

kid cudi man on the moon the end of day 1 1024x768 Today is a good day a.k.a. KiD CuDi album release day.

For KiD CuDi‘s debut album we get the preferential treatment compared to the US, where his album ‘Man on the Moon: The End of Day’ is due to release on September 15. I pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition on Amazon.de and look what I got in the mail this morning.

As you can see, the poster is inside. And the CD contains the Crookers Remix of Day ‘n’ Nite (by the way, a few days ago I found out about the second video for that version). So far, so good.

What was missing was the DVD, that should be in the Deluxe Edition. I checked back on the Amazon site and the page didn’t exist anymore. I wanted to call them, but then came an e-mail basically saying, that the manufacturer told them, that there won’t by any Deluxe Edition, which is shocking news to me (and maybe to you, too?). At least, I will get the remainig amount or I can send the CD back. It looks like the Deluxe Edition is available on hhv.de on September 18, so I’ll try that and hopefully get it eventually. There is even a trailer out there for the footage of the DVD, so c’mon, there has to be a Deluxe Edition. Right?? Right??

For those of you looking just for the CD, you can now get it there, too, including a limited KiD CuDi shirt. Although I must say, that there are KiD CuDi shirts out there, that rank higher in dopeness.

If you still didn’t decide to buy the album, you can have a listen here with the Album Sample by DatNewCudi.com (by the way, if you are looking for CuDi information, that’s the site right there!).

Also, ‘Blueprint 3′ dropped today in Germany, as it was originally planned in the US, too. Jay-Z will give a beneficial concert at MSG this evening, on exactly the same day ‘The Blueprint’ came out eight years ago (Yes, Sep 11, 2001). I think that is also a great advertising you can see below.

I like both albums, but I really love KiD CuDi’s album. In my opinion THE album right now! I listen to it all day. What’s your favorite?

And stay tuned for the other posts coming today.
