You might have seen the latest book by KAWS posted everywhere some months ago (sneakerb0b let’s you have a real cool look inside here), but what about those Hands Of Death magnets by OriginalFake…???
Yeah, I got them last year alreadyyy from the good guys from Firmament Berlin.
The Be@rbrick team got some new members recently, so I wanted you to get to know them.
Chrishimself brought me two Be@rbricks (Series 19) from his recent Tokyo trip (BIG SHOUTOUT & THX!) and I also ordered a special KAWS Companion Be@rbrick in collaboration with Original Fake. All 100%.
Check out the glass ear!!! :)
I got it from Firmament/The-Glade (located in Berlin), who carry also the 400% and 1000% versions of this grey colorway and the black one.
I also really love this Be@rbrick by Pattern because of the fur!! Hope you can see that on the pic.
The new album by Clipse called Til The Casket Drops is out and has a really cool cover designed by none other than KAWS. Having already seen the Complex cover with the Clipse x KAWS design on it I could imagine that the album cover might have something designed by KAWS aswell. As a fan of both KAWS and Clipse this was an instant buy for me.
German magazine STERNmade this video about urban vinyl also known as “designer toys” for better understanding.
Urban vinyl is usually made in limited numbers and seen as a piece of art like a sculpture for example.
The market is still kinda “unknown” but prices can go up to a few thousand euro already for highly limited “toys”.
Some of the designers for urban vinyl are KAWS, Usugrow and Pushead.
I recently won an urban vinyl figurine by Secret Base designed by Pushead while I was in Tokyo, I heard it’s highly limited of which (if I remember right) 10 were given out in a raffle if you buy something worth 5000 yen in the Secret Base store in Tokyo. A rumor says that they made those out of some leftover glow in the dark vinyl ;).
They had to take a polaroid picture of every winner to place it on the store shelf, if you happen to be in Tokyo check out the Secret Base store and look for the polaroids and say “Hey I know the guy from RUNFFM.COM” ^^; .
I really dig the design it has so many details and it glows orange in the dark ! ;).
In the video Selim Varol shows his huge urban vinyl collection, the video says he has the biggest collection in europe so far.Selim Varol is best known for the book Toy Giants which you might have seen in one or the other bookstore already.
Unfortunately the video is only in german and without subtitles but I hope you enjoy it anyway.
I got some new things in the last days, but I wanna start with these items, because they are my first Original Fake items I – now – possess: two little Companions!! To be exact, little Campnion Keychain Pendants, but I’m still undecided on if I will use them for my keyring.
A big applause goes out to the people over at THE-GLADE for the easy handling and the patience they had with me. And check this: If you look closely, they even have two KAWS crosses on the top of the envelope. ;-)
But now we’ll get to those two bad boys (click to enlarge)…
Here is a video of some of KAWS early works around New York City and Tokyo, saw this a few month ago for the first time somewhere and just came across it today again. Some amazing footage :)
To some people Hiroshi Fujiwara might not be a common name but you wont even imagine how influential he is to the world of fashion and streetwear. He is somewhat the icon or godfather of the Harajuku movement, if you are wearing something by Nike or Levis chances might be that they asked Hiroshi Fujiwara for advice.
Just as an example, most of todays T-Shirts have these little tags on their sleeves. Guess who did it first?
KAWS has been interviewed for CBS. Its more of a small biography pic, it gives you a little glimpse of his early works as a street artist to his new artshows, album covers to vinyl toys. It also tells you why he is called KAWS if you ever wondered…
Kaws is one of my favorite artists, he started out with streetart “defacing” billboards and advertisements at bus stops etc. with his now famous designs.
You might have spotted some of his work already without knowing it because he works with alot of artists from every kind of field like musicians, fashion designers etc.
He also did several covers for magazines and recently did the special edition LP cover for the latest Kanye West Album 808′s & Heartbreaks.
He has his own “fashion” brand called OriginalFake, make sure to check that out too. Read the rest of this entry »
