It’s not your normal sneaker book as the two authors Oliver Krämer and Carsten Franke portray sneakerheads and collectors. You will find out some kool things, like one guy interrupting sex with his girlfriend, because an eBay auction was about to end (he won it!) or another one outbidding Roger Federer over the phone for a pair of Nike Air Max 1 41.

…and at the end a few stores are presented like asphaltgold in Darmstadt, right next to Frankfurt.

You still can get this limited book (1st release was 150, now the 2nd is said to be 100) at hhv.de.

Galbraith is probably the best english source for anyone trying to find out more about Otaku culture. Its small but has 248 pages full of japanese pop culture knowledge, so if you dont know what “Otaku” means you just go to the letter O and there you go “a nerd, geek or fanboy…”, its a must get for anyone who is interested in japanese pop culture!

<g:plusone size="tall" count="1" href="http://www.runffm.com/2009/05/the-tokyo-diaries/"></g:plusone>

I’ve just ordered a book called The Tokyo Diaries by author David Schumann.
As the title gives it away its his Tokyo diary what else would it be, well the title could be some kind of drama novel but whatever its on point right?. David Schuhmann went to Tokyo to study at a japanese university for a few months and got the full treatment of japanese culture shock, weird things happening, weird people doing weird things and being isolated or at least feeling isolated in the beginning.
I can relate to a few of those things but I havent been to Tokyo that long to really know what actually goes on, therefor this is a nice read of actual real Tokyo experience.
And you know what if you’re actually are a punk rocker in your late 20s you might have a good chance to be a model in Japan at least thats what happened to him.
I’m not through the whole book yet but the first few pages were not bad and got me hooked and books usually dont work for me but if something is interesting enough I give it a chance thats why I sprung for the 16,90 Euro that this book costs on amazon hope I wont regret it.

As of now I would say if you are a fan of japanese pop culture and you speak and read german you should go and buy that book.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="1" href="http://www.runffm.com/2009/04/sneaker-tokyo-book/"></g:plusone>

I finally found a way to get my hands on this book and got it through Colette, some people might know Colette already its a store in Paris that carrys all kinds of different brands, gadgets, books, dvds, art, streetwear, magazines etc. etc. just check out the link.
The book comes in bilingual Japanese / English so you should be able to read at least one of those languages, also it features some of the biggest designers in interviews like Hiroshi Fujiwara. The whole book has 180 pages filled with sneaker landscapes of Tokyo and was released as a five year celebration of famous japanese publication Shoe Masters.

For people in Japan or people who want to order it from Japan check this link for people in Europe I would really recommend Colette it only takes 2 days for shipping its incredibly fast service (postage was a little hight though) you should also just browse through Colettes pages they have alot of stuff and you will find something that interests you for sure.

Alright check out more pictures after the jump, while I go on playing with the bubble wrap…

The title already pretty much gives it away its called the Tokyo Maniacs Guide, this book is extraordinary ;-)
All bilingual for you in english and japanese this book gives you insider tipps on locations in Tokyo that are worth a check out if you are into not so “normal” things.

This book is going to help me with the research on japanese popculture and my documentary on it, that is scheduled for shoot this august.

If you want it the only place to order it is YESASIA , more pictures after the jump!.
